Wide-band spectral variability of peaked spectrum sources

چکیده

ABSTRACT Characterizing spectral variability of radio sources is a technique that offers the ability to determine astrophysics intervening media, source structure, emission, and absorption processes. We present broadband (0.072–10 GHz) 15 peaked-spectrum (PS) with Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) Murchison Widefield (MWA). These PS were observed quasi-contemporaneously ATCA MWA four six times during 2020 approximately monthly cadence. Variability was not detected at 1–10 GHz frequencies but 13 targets show significant megahertz frequencies. conclude majority seen due refractive interstellar scintillation compact component ?25 mas across. also identify change in their shape Three these are consistent variable optical depth from an inhomogeneous free–free absorbing cloud around source. Gigahertz-Peaked Spectrum Radio Sources

The study of compact AGN which possess convex radio spectra (the gigahertz-peaked spectrum, or GPS sources) has generated a lot of interest over the last four decades, since these objects offer a unique opportunity to probe both the early evolutionary stages of relativistic AGN jets and their immediate nuclear environments. In this article I trace Ken Kellermann’s early investigations of these ...

New candidate GHz Peaked Spectrum and Compact Steep Spectrum Sources

Data from a recent Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) program of multi-frequency, multi-epoch monitoring of 202 active galactic nuclei with declinations < +10 • have been searched for GHz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) and Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) radio sources. Supplementary data at higher and lower frequencies, where available, have been used to further examine the spectral properties of pre...

Optical spectroscopy of faint gigahertz peaked spectrum sources

We present spectroscopic observations of a sample of faint Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) radio sources drawn from the Westerbork Northern Sky Survey (WENSS). Redshifts have been determined for 19 (40%) of the objects. The optical spectra of the GPS sources identified with low redshift galaxies show deep stellar absorption features. This confirms previous suggestions that their optical light i...

Radio spectra of Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum radio sources

Awell defined sample of 72 Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum radio sources is compiled, having turnover frequencies in the range of 0.5 – 10 GHz. Using this sample, the canonical GPS radio spectrum is constructed, which is found to have a constant shape, independent of AGN type, redshift or radio luminosity. A possible deficiency of low turnover frequencies at high redshift is found, which may reflect ...

The evolution of GHz-peaked-spectrum radio sources

Observations of extended radio emission in some GPS sources suggest that they may not be a young version of the classical doubles. The compact source would be confined by the presence of a dense medium in the center of the galaxy. The existence of such a dense environment is supported by the observation of disturbed optical morphologies indicating galaxygalaxy interaction or mergers. A simple m...
